One of COMAC's goals has been to create open spaces to avoid discrimination
of sexual minorities, and get closer to all those suffering from social
rejection because of their sexual preference, gender identity or their HIV and
AIDS condition, among others.
This is how the inception of Roses at the Pavement was inspired upon.
The purpose of this magazine is to create a sisterhood of trans persons:
transvestites, transgendered, transsexuals, their families and friends,
providing a positive setting to ease their fears, guilt, self-oppression,
loneliness and social rejection/isolation they face on a day-to-day basis,
bringing new social and educational support, along with tools they can use
to fight for their rights.
Therefore, the magazine becomes not only a media for reflection, but to
exchange proposals and experiences to benefit the trans community, specially
those affected by HIV and AIDS, and their loved ones.
Roses in the Pavement was freely distributed in the state, with two
consecutive issues sponsored by CENSIDA. COMAC now has another grant by state's
AIDS Committee and will be published again soon.
