Let us imagine for a moment, a "select group of mature ladies, all of them mothers from high-society families, all concerned about the alarming growth rate for HIV and AIDS among youths. So they decide to make an effort, leaving their social engagements, beauty treatments and charitable auctions for a while, so they can come to the discos to create awareness about this health issue."

These characters are "Las Rukas", (The Old Ladies, that is), some quite peculiar gals that apply everything they learned from their early childhood, such as ballet, singing, acting, etc., into a musical show which is provocative, irreverent, original and very amusing. Their motto is, "If we outgrew our forties, it's because we protected ourselves."

This is how the Rukas inception was inspired, then became a national winner from COMAC - Comunidad Metropolitana, A.C., at Mexico's National HIV and AIDS Council, stressing out the need to bring the prevention message to the nightclubs and discos in town, schools and other institutions at Monterrey. The Rukas is not a show for everyone, because it is targeted to adults 18 years or older, because of its strong content and language, as well as references to proper use of condom and sexually-transmitted diseases.

PERFORMANCES: LAS RUKAS are currently undergoing intensive rehearsals, right after achieving great success at many night spots such as  E-EVOLUTION, MUXETS, SPIIKA, not to mention their famous appearance at the Cabaret, inside the International Cultural Forum in Monterrey, as well as the Cultural Week from the Psychology School at the State's University. They also did the final performance at the closing event from the Eight Diversity March, June 2008, to the delight of many. We plea their admirers, fans, paparazzi and more claiming for their return, to those sending emails and making phone calls and requests in person, to please have a bit more of patience, because rehearsals are long and tiring.
